I enjoy working with fonts that have a large number of weights and variations within a family, so I decided that I would create one of these large families for my senior thesis. The core weight of this family is a simple, thin-weighted sans serif. Scrolling through one way in the family, the sans serif base remains the same, but the terminals become more illustrative. Moving in the other direction of the family leads to bold and juicy calligraphic weights.
Creating such a large type family takes time, so currently, only one weight exists (one of the bold, calligraphic weights), but this is one of my on-going projects that I continue to work on. As time progresses I want to add more weights to this family, such as italics, and various serifs. Until the weights are completed, I’ve created a chart that shows what the eight future weights will look like.
